The Formentor Beach, which is considered one of the most beaurifult beaches of Mallorca, is situated in the northeast of the Island about 10 kms from Pollença’s Harbor. Formentor Beach is long und narrow and it extends approximately 1 km. It is divided in 3 parts. Formentor Beach is surrounded by pine woods and deep turquoise waters.
It is ideal to go with children because it isn’t deep and the sea is very calm. Unfortunatelly, wheelchair access is complicated.
Formentor was used as inspiration for several poets, writers and painters since the end of the XIX century.
There you will find the Hotel Formentor which was inaugurated in 1929. It was a project of Adan Diehl, an Argentine millionaire and his wife, who bought a huge plot that belonged to the family of mallorcan writer Miquel Costa ILlobera. At the moment this 5 star hotel is remodeling and it will open its doors in 2023. This venue attracted several personalities such as Dalai Lamah, Grace
Kelly and Raniero de Monaco, Charles Chaplin and Winston Churchill….
In Formentor Beach you will find public showers, rest-rooms, lifeguard, beach umbrellas and sun loungers. Next to the pier there is a cafeteria that belongs to the mentioned hotel with beautiful and astounding views over the Mediterranean Sea.
How do you get to Formentor Beach?It is very easy!
- From May until October you can go from Pollenca’s Harbor to Formentor Beach using catamaran. The tour lasts 30 minutes.
- From June/15 until August/31 cars are not allowed to go to Mirador de Es Colomer, Formentor Beach or its lighthouse.
Then, the Balearic Government created a special system named “bus lanzadera” that
joins the Pollença’s Harbor with those scenic points. Visitors have a free parking next to the main center stop.
There are several schedules from 09:45 until 17:00. Ticket costs 1,55€ per personand trip.
n my opinion the Formentor Lighthouse, which was inaugurated in 1863, is a fantastic place to visit thanks to its unique road and environment.
